If you are going to school to expand your career choices then you need to develop skills that will make you more marketable to employers. A study from the Society for Human Resource Management and Partnership for 21st Century Skills outlined the top 5 most important skills for new entrants into the workforce as follows:
• Professionalsim
• Teamwork
• Oral Communication
• Ethics and Social Responsibility
• Reading Comprehension
When looking at what school you want to attend and what major you want to choose, consider the skills that you need to develop. By attending a school that can help you develop these skills you put yourself in the best position to build a career after you graduate. Stay focused on your long term goals during your time in school. If you are gaining the skills that are most important then college will be a worthwhile experience, but it is up to you to work for it.
